Data Engineers Industrial Placement 2027
Data Engineer Industrial Placement students join the Met Office for a 12-month year in industry starting in July 2027. Working within the Machine Learning Operations team alongside software, DevOps, and data engineers, you will help build services that power the next generation of weather and climate forecasting. Day to day, you will learn on the job under supervision, handling different data types, transforming data using scripts, and supporting the move from experimentation to real-world operations. You will also network with other placement students and collaborate with multidisciplinary colleagues across technology, product, and science.

- Studying towards a degree incorporating a placement year
- Demonstrable experience with Python, Java, Scala, or R
- Understanding of data flows, structures, and algorithms
- Good communication and problem-solving skills
- An interest in weather and climate science
Qualifications
- Degree in Computer Science, Data Science or Data Engineering
Nationality requirements
This job is broadly open to UK, Ireland, Commonwealth, EU and Turkish nationals with the right to work in the UK.
