Senior Biomedical Scientist - Safety & Training Lead
You will lead validation and implementation for a new testing facility at the UK Health Security Agency scientific campus, ensuring high-throughput molecular testing workflows meet quality standards. Working alongside specialist teams, you will act as Laboratory Safety Officer and training lead, overseeing staff and managing health and safety compliance. You will also perform diagnostic assays, participate in out-of-hours testing rotas during incidents, and support wider organisational priorities. This role requires flexibility to adapt to changing project demands and respond to emerging public health threats.
What they're looking for
- Degree in an appropriate medical, microbiology or biological science discipline
- Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council as a Biomedical Scientist
- Substantive experience in a diagnostic or reference virology laboratory
- Experience as a laboratory safety officer in a virology or microbiology lab
- Experience leading and managing teams or projects to tight deadlines
Qualifications
- Degree in medical, microbiology or biological science
- MSc or higher qualification in a relevant science discipline
- HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist
