Deer Officer
This Deer Officer role leads work to improve protected woodland sites under the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Protected Sites Strategy, with a focus on the New Forest. The postholder works with Natural England, landowners, and local partners to assess habitat conditions, understand deer impacts, and develop coordinated delivery plans. Responsibilities include gathering ecological evidence, resolving practical barriers to deer management, and building constructive relationships to support woodland recovery. The position is based within the Forestry Commission and involves collaborating across teams to ensure sustainable deer management.

- Applied experience in ecology, conservation, forestry, or wildlife management
- Ability to collect and interpret field and spatial evidence
- Working knowledge of wild deer ecology or related herbivore impacts
- Strong record of working with landowners and partners to influence decisions
- Experience translating evidence into proportionate strategies or work plans
Qualifications
- Full current driving licence enabling driving in the UK

Selection process
