Head of Housing and Family Benefits
You will lead a team within HM Treasury's Welfare Spending and Reform group, driving policy development and spending control for housing benefits, Child Benefit, and related family support. Day to day, you will advise ministers on budget proposals, scrutinise spending bids from departments like the Department for Work and Pensions, and analyse data on homelessness and child poverty. You will also build collaborative relationships across government departments and support the professional development of your team members. This is a maternity cover role offering a vital perspective on the UK economy and welfare spending.

Nationality requirements

Selection process
Shortlisting will take place in the week commencing 12th October 2026. Interviews will be held in the weeks commencing 26th October and 2nd November 2026.
