In-house Solicitor
This role provides legal advice and support across Environmental Standards Scotland, assisting the Principal In-house Solicitor with environmental law, public law, corporate governance, and information law. The post holder assesses legal risk, analyses legislation and case law, and manages external legal services while working collaboratively with colleagues across the organisation. They will draft legal processes, deliver internal training, and represent the organisation at external meetings and stakeholder events. The position is based in Edinburgh and sits within the Corporate Services and Communications Department.

- Experience within an environmental or public law context
- Proven ability to exercise reliable legal judgement and assess risks
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for technical audiences
- Significant planning and organisational skills to manage a fast caseload
Qualifications
- Practicing as a solicitor, or with experience of practicing, in Scotland
- Minimum one year post-qualification experience in relevant law context
- Valid practicing certificate or equivalent, or ability to obtain one
Nationality requirements
Open to UK, Irish, Commonwealth, EU/EEA (with settled/pre-settled status), and qualifying Turkish nationals.
Selection process
The sift is expected to take place from 14 October 2026. Interviews are expected to take place week commencing 16 November 2026.
