Maths and Cryptography Internship
This nine-week summer internship gives undergraduate students the opportunity to conduct innovative research on real operational projects at GCHQ. Interns work collaboratively with peers and are supported by experienced technical experts in areas such as cryptographic algorithms, data analysis, machine learning, and high-performance computing. The role is designed to develop mathematical and programming skills while offering insight into the organisation's work. Participants are based in Cheltenham for the duration of the programme.
What they're looking for
- Studying for an undergraduate degree in mathematics
- Completed a minimum of two taught years of degree
- On track to achieve a 2:1 qualification
- At least an A in A-level maths or equivalent
- Love for solving problems and interest in new skills
Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in mathematics (minimum 2:1 trajectory)
- A-level maths grade A or equivalent
Nationality requirements
To work at GCHQ you need to be a British citizen or hold dual British nationality.
Selection process
Stages include an online Situational Judgement Test, full application form, form sift, and a virtual interview with a technical presentation.
