Prison Officer Returners Scheme
This role involves returning to the prison service as a prison officer to help maintain safety and security across adult and women's custodial facilities. You will work directly with colleagues, staff, and prisoners on a daily basis to supervise regimes, manage safety, and support prisoner rehabilitation. The position requires covering 24-hour operational shift patterns, including evenings, nights, and weekends, while ensuring order is maintained. You will engage in physical duties, take part in ongoing security tasks, and complete medical and fitness assessments as part of your operational responsibilities.
What they're looking for
- Former HMPPS prison officer or youth justice worker within last 5 years
- Completed foundation training and full probation period previously
- Must be at least 18 years old at the point of starting employment
- Meet required eyesight and hearing standards without hearing aids
Nationality requirements
This job is broadly open to UK nationals, Republic of Ireland nationals, Commonwealth citizens with the right to work, EU/EEA/Swiss nationals with settled or pre-settled status, and Turkish nationals.
