Data Engineer
You will join the Digital Archiving team at The National Archives as a Data Engineer, helping to transform how archival data is managed, structured, and enriched for public discovery. Day to day, you will design and build scalable data pipelines, automate data processing and cleansing, and integrate information from diverse sources using modern technologies like Python, SQL, and graph databases. You will work closely with product teams, archivists, and developers in a collaborative environment that supports your professional development. Your work will directly support the preservation and accessibility of the UK’s documentary heritage, including a new Parliamentary Archives project.
What they're looking for
- Strong data manipulation experience using SQL, Shell scripting or XSLT
- Practical knowledge of RDBMS, NoSQL, graph databases or linked data
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills for technical issues
- Strong communication and collaboration skills in multidisciplinary teams
- High accuracy, organisation and ability to prioritise competing tasks
Nationality requirements
Open to UK, Ireland, Commonwealth, EU and Turkish nationals with the right to work in the UK.
Selection process
Interviews will be held on-site, ideally week commencing 2nd November 2026, and will include a technical test.
