Data Engineer (up to £61,340)
Data Engineers work within a multidisciplinary team in a large and complex data environment to develop and deliver end-to-end data solutions. They translate user requirements and data models into effective, robust data engineering solutions while collaborating openly with colleagues across the department. Professionals in this role use modern cloud technologies, scripting, and data quality processes to build and maintain data products and support the engineering community. The position helps the department achieve its vision of enabling children and learners to thrive through excellent standards of education, training and care.
What they're looking for
- Experience building data solutions on Azure, AWS or Google Cloud
- Proficiency in SQL, Python, Apache Spark or Spark SQL
- Delivering through Agile and DevOps working practices
- Experience performing troubleshooting and root-cause analysis
Nationality requirements
This job is broadly open to UK nationals, nationals of the Republic of Ireland, Commonwealth citizens, EU/EEA/Swiss nationals with settled status, and Turkish nationals under the Ankara Agreement.
Selection process
We expect to sift in week commencing 19 October 2026. Interviews will likely take place in the weeks commencing 2, 9 and 16 November 2026 on MS Teams with candidates at a DfE office.
