The post holder will lead an ambitious change agenda at the heart of the department, providing strategic direction, specialist change delivery capability, and strong leadership to drive the successful design and implementation of Defra's change initiatives. The role works closely with strategy, policy, delivery colleagues, and functional directors to ensure change is coherent, supports departmental outcomes, and aligns with the Future Civil Service Programme. Responsibilities include overseeing an efficiencies portfolio to meet spending targets, establishing strategic alliances, developing change functional governance, and communicating complex responsibilities simply to the Executive Committee.

This job is broadly open to UK nationals, Republic of Ireland nationals, Commonwealth citizens with right to work, EU/EEA/Swiss nationals with EUSS status, and Turkish nationals under the Ankara Agreement.
