GES Sandwich Student Placement 2027-2028
This paid student placement offers economics undergraduates in their penultimate year the chance to spend a year collaborating with experienced government economists. You will work on pressing economic issues such as climate change, levelling up, healthcare funding, and social mobility while shaping real policies. Day to day, you will support government decisions, prepare high-level briefings, and connect economic theory to practical societal solutions. The role involves working alongside professional economists within participating government departments across the UK.
What they're looking for
- Penultimate year undergraduate in economics, joint honours, or PPE
- On course for a 2:1 or 1st class degree outcome
- Must have studied both macroeconomics and microeconomics
Qualifications
- Undergraduate honours degree in economics (or equivalent with 50% economics)
Nationality requirements
Must be a UK, Irish, Commonwealth, or EU/EEA/Swiss national with settled status, or a Turkish national under the Ankara Agreement, with the right to work in the UK.
Selection process
Interviews are held virtually between 30 November and 16 December 2026.
