GORS Analytical 1-Year Sandwich Placement
This role provides a one-year university sandwich placement within the Government Operational Research Service across various government departments. Students work alongside professional analysts to develop mathematical models, analyse complex systems, and apply statistical techniques to help policymakers tackle major issues like climate change and migration. Day-to-day duties involve designing pilot studies, forecasting trends, and presenting findings in written reports and meetings. The placement helps students build technical and professional skills while contributing to real government policy decisions.
What they're looking for
- Studying a highly numerate degree achieving a 2:1 or above
- Drive to learn modelling, statistical and computing skills
- Ability to work effectively independently and in a team
- Capable of explaining technical concepts in plain English
Qualifications
- Degree in a highly numerate subject
- At least half of modules from approved numerate subjects
Nationality requirements
Open to UK, Irish, Commonwealth, EU, EUSS-status, and Turkish nationals with the right to work in the UK.
Selection process
Interviews will take place during the weeks commencing 9th November and 16th November via Microsoft Teams and include a five-minute presentation.
