Scientist-Pathology
This role involves working as a diagnostician within the Tree Health Diagnostic and Advisory Service to examine plant samples and provide expert advice on tree health problems. The person will use classical morphological and molecular techniques, carry out bio-informatic processing, and help research specific tree pathogens and their biology. You will collaborate with scientific colleagues, write technical publications, and communicate findings and good biosecurity practices to stakeholders and the public. Day-to-day duties also include maintaining laboratory facilities, conducting field sampling visits, and contributing to the wider activities of the Tree Health research group.
What they're looking for
- Degree in plant biology, microbiology, biochemistry or post graduate qualification in Plant Pathology
- Skill in good laboratory practice with experience identifying microorganisms using molecular skills
- Experience in general plant pathology methods including microscopy and organism isolation
- Good standard of verbal and written communication with IT proficiency in MS Office
- Full current driving licence enabling driving in the UK
Qualifications
- Degree in plant biological sciences, microbiology, or biochemistry
- Post graduate qualification in Plant Pathology or Microbiology
- Full UK driving licence
