SDA Naval Architect / Marine Engineer (Surface Ship Escape Evacuation and Rescue)
This role within the Submarine Delivery Agency involves managing and delivering safety certification activities for Escape, Evacuation and Rescue systems across all classes of Ministry of Defence surface ships and boats. The postholder will review ship drawings, audit submissions, handle non-compliances, and conduct physical vessel surveys at ports and naval bases across the UK. Working alongside technical specialists, operators, and industry stakeholders, the successful candidate will help maintain maritime safety standards and shape future policies. The position offers an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in marine engineering, ship systems, and design assurance within a defence environment.
What they're looking for
- Maritime engineering experience with analytical and methodical skills
- Working towards Chartered or Incorporated Engineer registration
- Experience of providing technical advice and engineering outcomes
- Full UK driving licence held at the point of application
Qualifications
- Relevant Level 4 or higher qualification accredited by a UK body
- Full UK driving licence
- Member of a relevant Professional Engineering or Science Institute
