Seaman 1A
Join the vessel crew to support marine science and protect Scotland's seas by working aboard research vessels. You will assist with deck, fishing, and scientific operations, operate deck machinery, and perform watchkeeping duties alongside officers and scientists. Your daily work ensures the safe operation of the vessel and the successful collection of crucial scientific data. This role operates primarily in Scottish waters on marine working patterns.
What they're looking for
- Experience working at sea on fishing vessels undertaking seamanship duties
- Knowledge and application of safe working practices in a marine environment
- Experience operating and handling Fast Rescue Craft or Rigid Inflatable Boats
- Recent experience operating deck equipment like davits, winches and cranes
Qualifications
- UK Able Seafarer Certificate of Competency
- Valid STCW certification
- Valid unlimited ENG1 medical
Nationality requirements
Open to UK, Irish, Commonwealth, EU, Swiss, Norwegian, Icelandic, Liechtenstein and Turkish nationals with relevant right to work or EUSS status.
Selection process
Assessments are scheduled for w/c 30 November 2026. If invited for further assessment, this will consist of an interview and job simulation.
