GSS Sandwich Year Placements 2027
Placement students join the Government Statistical Service for a 12-month industrial placement year to apply analytical skills to real-world challenges. Working alongside experienced statisticians, data scientists, and analysts, you will contribute to high-profile analytical projects that inform government policy and public services. You will collect, manipulate, and analyze data while developing professional and technical expertise in a supportive environment.
What they're looking for
- Experience in data collection, manipulation, and analysis
- IT literate with experience using Excel and statistical software
- Good communication skills to present analysis to non-specialists
- Ability to work in a team to deliver statistical advice to deadlines
Qualifications
- Currently studying second year of a numerate degree with statistical content
- Expecting to achieve a 2:2 or above
Nationality requirements
Open to UK, Irish, Commonwealth, EU and Turkish nationals with the right to work.
Selection process
The sift will be conducted from w/c 16th November 2026 and interviews from w/c 30th November 2026 via Microsoft Teams, including a presentation.
