GSS Summer Student Placements 2027
Join the Government Statistical Service for a summer placement lasting up to three months, where you will apply your academic knowledge to support real-world government projects and decision-making. You will work within a team alongside experienced analysts, data scientists, and policy professionals to collect, analyze, and present data that informs vital public services. This role provides hands-on experience in a professional analytical environment, helping to shape policies that affect millions across the UK. You will also develop key workplace skills, collaborate across government departments, and build a network with fellow early-career analysts.
What they're looking for
- Experience in data collection, manipulation, and analysis
- IT literate with experience using Excel and statistical software
- Good communication skills to explain analysis to non-specialists
- Ability to work effectively in a team to tight deadlines
Qualifications
- Currently studying a numerate degree expecting a 2:2 or above
- Must be returning to undergraduate degree following placement
Nationality requirements
Open to UK, Irish, Commonwealth, EU, Swiss, Norwegian, Icelandic, Liechtenstein and Turkish nationals with relevant status.
Selection process
Sift takes place week commencing 2nd November 2026. Interviews are held via Microsoft Teams from week commencing 16th November 2026.
